Warning



Definition of Warning
A warning means giving information of the danger or unexpected situation that can happen if a person does something.
A warning is usually in the form of imperative, but it may occur with the modal "must"and "should".
The Function Of Warning
1.     To admonish as to action or manners.
2.     To notify a person to go or stay away.
3.     To notify or apprise in advance. Eg. They called and warned me that they might be delayed.
4.     To notify or make someone aware of danger or harm.
There are two forms of warning, that is:
Warning in writing
Example: Written warning on a poster, bulletin board, the warning on the cigarette packs, etc.
Warnings spoken directly
Example: Spontaneously uttered as a warning to someone.
Warning can be found at:
Zoo
Laboratory
Mall
Hospital
Airport
Railway station, etc.
Way To Say It
When we are going to give warning to other people, we can use these expressions:


Informative notice:
Out of order (eg. for a machine that is not working).
No vacancies (eg. there are no more rooms to rent in a hotel, there are no jobs in an office).
Sold out (the tickets are sold out).
 Do This:
Please queue other side
Keep right
 Don’t Do This:
Keep off the grass
No smoking
No parking
No exit
Don’t lean out of the window
Please do not disturb
Please do not feed the animals
Silence. Examination is in progress
Don’t leave bags unattended.
 Watch Out:
Watch your head
Fragile (Be careful, this will break easily)
Watch your step
Beware of pickpockets
Beware of fierce dog
Watch out. The train is coming
Look out behind you.
 Advice:
Take good care of yourself
Be careful
Take care, please.
